Luis (Alfonso) Ortiz

Alfonso Ortiz, MHSc. is a Project Assistant for the Clinical Evaluation Research Unit. Alfonso obtained a BSc in Nutrition in Mexico and has been trained in Biostatistics and Clinical Trials Designs by Harvard University. He was part of a Research Fellowship in Critical Care and Trauma at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA,USA, where he co-authored publications in the field of Critical Care Nutrition. Alfonso assists The RE-ENERGIZE Study, a double-blind, placebo-active, RCT performed in >50 Burn Units from Canada, USA, Europe, and Latin America; the EFFORT trial, a multi-center, pragmatic, volunteer-driven, registry-based, RCT of 4000 nutritionally high-risk critically ill patients from >90 ICUs from 15 countries, and the VICToRY Pilot Trial, a multi-centre, international, randomized controlled trial of high dose intravenous vitamin C in critically ill burn injured patients. He is also one of the review committees of the critical care systematic reviews. In his free time, Alfonso enjoys train for triathlons and the outdoors!
