John Muscedere, MD, FRCPC is an intensivist at Kingston General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Queen's University. He is Chair of the Intensivist Advisory Group for Trillium Gift of Life Network. He was a member of the Ontario Taskforce on Critical Care Restructuring. Prior to this present position, Dr. Muscedere was Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital, a tertiary community hospital in Windsor, Ontario for 12 years. Under his leadership, the ICU was converted from an open administrative structure to a closed one, multi-disciplinary rounds were instituted and quality improvement initiatives were commenced. He developed the research program at that hospital and chaired the Research Ethics Board for five years. At the present, in addition to his clinical duties, his role includes quality improvement initiatives in the ICU and clinical research. His research interests include ventilator-associated pneumonia, clinical practice guidelines, quality improvement, thrombosis and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
